Area music students selected for Chadron State festival

2009 Jan 23

Jayma Loghry, a student at Sidney High School, was selected to participate in the Chadron State College High Plains Band and Chorus Festival on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 2-3. Following two days of rehearsals, LAST and the other selected students will present a concert at 5 p.m. Feb. 3 in CSC's Memorial Hall.

Loghry, Soprano I, will perform with the High Plains Women's Choir.

Students auditioned for parts in the festival's four ensembles by submitting recordings last fall. Members of the CSC music faculty selected the participants.

In all, 280 students from 28 high schools within a 200-mile radius of Chadron are participating in the annual event.

Each group is scheduled to play four or five songs during the concert. The sheet music for the concert was sent to students in advance so they could begin preparing.

Dr. J. Steven Moore, director of bands at Colorado State University, will conduct the High Plains Honor Band. Three CSC music faculty members will conduct the other groups. They are Dr. Joel Schreuder, High Plains Honor Choir, Dr. Una Taylor, High Plains Women's Choir and Dr. Adam Lambert, High Plains Festival Band.
