Meet CSC Admissions Ambassador Katie Hoeke

College senior establishes club to help others

Chadron, NE (02/14/2024) — Katie Hoeke of Rapid City, South Dakota, is a Chadron State College Admissions Ambassador who provides tours for prospective students and their families when they visit the CSC campus.

She is a senior who has qualified for the President's List with a 4.0 grade point average every semester at CSC.

Hoeke started a club called Every Eagle Succeeds in her sophomore year.

"Our goal is to help provide for student needs so they can succeed in higher education. We have a storage room called the Eagle Exchange filled with gently used clothing donations, laundry supplies, school supplies, and hygiene products. CSC student activity fees pay for the Eagle Exchange, which is a free resource for all students," she said.

The club also sponsors events like professor and staff meet and greets and stress management events like making Zen gardens.

"My original vision was students supporting students, and I'm so glad it has become just that," she said. "I know I have the tools for success that I have learned from CSC."

She has traveled with CSC's Art Guild to Denver and Sante Fe and helped organize a walk against sexual assault.

"This event is one of my favorite experiences because it's a great way to support survivors and pledge against being bystanders of sexual assault on the CSC campus," she said.

In addition to being an Admissions Ambassador, Hoeke is a Back-On-Track mentor at the Learning Lab and Tutoring Center, an Eagle Mentor, and a gymnastics coach at Panhandle Gymnastics.

She will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in education with a field endorsement in Special Education, K-12.

"Through internships, I have learned that student advocacy is so important. When we don't advocate for students and people with disabilities, it can have disastrous effects on student learning outcomes and their postsecondary transition out of the classroom and into life. Helping people learn self-advocacy is one of the most important things to ensure that people with disabilities can be a part of our communities and culture," Hoeke said.
